Trump: Deal with Iran expected to be signed very soon

US President Donald Trump has said a resolution to the conflict with Iran has just been reached and that a formal signing of the agreement is expected shortly.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the parties are in the process of finalising the documents.

"We will be in the process of finalising the documents. This should be done within the next few days," he said, as reported by the BBC.

The US president also left open the possibility that the signing could take place in Europe.

"We have an agreement that Iran will never have nuclear weapons, which was the entire purpose of everything we had to go through to get here. So it is a very important thing," he said.

Trump added that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened as soon as the agreement is signed.

He also said he had spoken with leaders in the region, including Gulf allies and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who he said were pleased with the deal.

When responding to a reporter who noted that the United States and Iran had come close to a deal in the past and asked what was different this time, Trump said the other side was more eager for an agreement than he was.

"Because they have taken a very big hit. They have taken a very big hit that very few people could withstand. And they want to make a deal much more than I do," he said.
